Vintage Watch Condition Examination
This Rolex watch is in overall great, honest vintage condition. The case is in good condition with scratches and some nicks/wear along the edges. The case and bracelet appear to have been polished. The bezel is in good condition with scratches and nicks. The dial is in good condition and has developed patina throughout. It has aged from a bright silver to a slightly darker beige/ yellow color. The dial has some spots of wear between 11 and 2 on the upper half of the dial. The rehaut has developed patina and has darkened in areas, which is not uncommon. The lume on the dial has developed patina with some darker areas, some plots show signs of degradation. The hands and hour markers have developed patina. The lume in the hands has aged and match the color of the lume on the dial well. The integrated bracelet is in very good condition with some wear and minimal stretch between the links.
Rolex Date 1530
Rolex introduced the this reference in circa 1975 and it was something out of the ordinary for Rolex in terms of design. This model is distinguished by its angular case and integrated bracelet. This watch is the predecessor to the Oysterquartz and many people think at a glance that this model is the quartz version, but when looking closely you can see it is not. In 1970 Rolex decided to come up with a quartz movement of their own and it took them about five years to make it happen. Before the movement was ready they developed the case already and wanted to start selling it. So they paired it with the known 1575 movement and the reference 1530 was born. It is estimated that Rolex only made approximately 1500 of these watches between 1975 and 1977. The Oysterquartz was finally finished in 1977 and replaced the 1530.
This is one of those Rolex watches that even the most seasoned collector might not know about and that is why whenever one comes in we get pretty excited. These just have a different look that reminds us of the angular Royal Oak and we see more people gravitate towards it because of the unique style. This model was actually designed by Gerald Genta who also famously designed the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, Patek Philippe Nautilus and countess other classic designs.
The example we have here is in overall attractive, honest condition. The silver dial has developed patina and has a yellowish/ champagne tint to it which is something we have seen before. If you are looking for an uncommon Rolex reference with a unique patina this is defiantly a contender.
